Japan gifts Manipur a peace museum
Japan gifts Manipur a “Peace Museum” which is built on the memories of one of the fiercest battles of the Second World War.
- The inauguration of the Imphal Peace Museum at Red Hill, about 20 km southwest of Manipur’s capital Imphal, marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Imphal.
Telangana hosts International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) congress
Telangana hosted 32nd edition of the International Seed Testing Association congress. This was the first edition of ISTA congress to be held in Asia.
- Scientists, policy makers, researchers and members of public and private seed industry from over 80 countries participated in the congress.
EAC-PM sets up Beekeeping Development Committee for recognising honeybees as inputs to agriculture
The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister set up a Beekeeping Development Committee under the Chairmanship of Bibek Debroy to identify ways of advancing beekeeping in India.
- Some of the recommendations in the report include:
> Recognizing honeybees as inputs to agriculture and considering landless beekeepers as farmers.
> Institutionalizing the National Bee Board and rename it as the Honey and Pollinators Board of India.
> Plantation of bee friendly flora at appropriate places and engaging women self help groups in managing such plantations.
Kerala tops health rankings; UP, Bihar worst performers: NITI Aayog report
Kerala took the top spot among larger states for overall performance on health indicators in a NITI Aayog report, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha languish at the bottom.
- Haryana, Rajasthan and Jharkhand showed the maximum improvement of health outcomes from base to reference year.
17th Run against Drug Abuse
Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment flagged off “17th Run Against Drug Abuse” on the occasion of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” in New Delhi.
- ‘Listen First’ was chosen as the theme to increase the support for prevention of drug use.

RBI asks Commercial Banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme
The Reserve Bank of India has advised all Scheduled Commercial Banks to adopt Education Loan Scheme, formulated by Indian Banks Association. Salient features of the Scheme includes:
- Loan upto Rs 10 lakh for study in India and upto Rs 20 lakh for studyabroad.
- Collateral free loans upto Rs 7.5 Lakh under the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans (CGFSEL).
- No Margin for loan up to Rs 7.50 Lakh.
- Repayment period of 15 years
- One Year Moratorium for repayment after completion of studies in allcases.
- Moratorium taking into account spells of unemployment/under-employment, say two or three times during the life cycle of theloan
- Moratorium for the incubation period if the student wants to take up a start-up venture aftergraduation.

K Natarajan to be the new director general of Indian Coast Guard
Krishnaswamy Natarajan has been appointed as the next director general of Indian Coast Guard. He will replace the incumbent Rajendra Singh who is retiring after three and a half years of illustrious service.
Govt appoints new RAW, IB chiefs
The government named chiefs of two top intelligence agencies of the country appointing Samant Kumar Goel as head of foreign intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), and Arvind Kumar as Director of Intelligence Bureau, internal intelligence agency.
- Goel, who was earlier Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, succeeds A K Dhasmana whose tenure ends on June 29.
- The ACC also approved elavation of Arvind Kumar from Special Director to Director of the Intelligence Bureau. He replaces Rajiv Jain whose tenure will end on June 30.

Scribe wins RedInk award for Aadhaar expose
Rachna Khaira of The Tribune has bagged the prestigious RedInk Award for ‘Journalist of the Year’ for her expose during 2018 on the functioning of the UIDAI and its Aadhaar data cache.
- By running a series of stings, the journalist was able to raise serious doubts about the claims by the government that the Aadhar data stored in UIDAI servers was safe and secure.
Dr Biju’s Malayalam film ‘Veyil Marangal’ wins award at Shanghai Film Festival
Veyil Marangal, directed by Dr Biju, has received the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival, one of the largest fests in East Asia.

Goa freedom fighter Mohan Ranade passes away
Veteran freedom fighter from Goa and Padmashri winner Mohan Ranade passes away after a prolonged illness.
- Mohan Ranade was a member of the Azad Gomantak Dal, a group of revolutionaries who believed in the doctrine of armed attacks against the Portuguese colonial rule and participated in ambushes on several Portuguese installations in Goa.

The United Nations observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
- The day is celebrated by the United Nations as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
- The Theme for 2019 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is “Health for Justice, Justice for Health.”
Day of the Seafarer
The International Maritime Organization observes 25 June as the Day of the Seafarer. This year the day will be celebrated to highlight the opportunities for women in a wide range of maritime careers and professions, but the focus will be very firmly on one aspect of that community i.e. seafarers.
